Important Information for Applicants Outside the EU/EEA
Residence Permit. If you are not a citizen of an EU or EEA country, you need a residence permit for studies, which must be granted before you travel to Sweden. The decision is made exclusively by the Swedish Migration Agency. Once you have accepted your spot and paid the application fee, we will issue an admission certificate stating your program dates, that the studies are full-time and on campus in Stockholm, and the number of scheduled hours per week. We cannot advise you on which permit category to apply for, nor can we influence the outcome.
What a student permit does not provide. A residence permit for this type of study does not grant the right to work in Sweden during the course of your studies. It does not grant accompanying family members the right to a residence permit on the same grounds. It does not lead to a permit to seek employment in Sweden after completing your education.
The length of your studies matters. If your studies last less than one year, you will normally be assigned a coordination number instead of being registered in the population register, which affects your access to banking services and BankID. You will also need comprehensive private health insurance that is valid for the entire duration of your stay. For this reason, we recommend the two-year option for applicants who need a residence permit.
Time Management. The Swedish Migration Agency’s processing times are currently at least three months and may be longer. Apply as early as possible. Do not book any travel until your permit has been granted, and never book a ticket that cannot be canceled.
Start your application today and take the first step toward an exciting career in music production—right at the heart of where global hits are made!
