Get better at closing projects

Sometimes you lose the inspiration you had when you first wrote a song. Then it becomes unexpectedly difficult to finish it. This is nothing unusual in itself and happens to everyone from time to time. The important thing is that you have some tricks to try to get to a point where you feel that you can complete the project and feel satisfied. Here are some tips from us at AP on this topic!

Bring in other people!

This cannot be emphasized enough. Bringing a fresh pair of ears into the studio who have never heard the project you are working on is worth its weight in gold. They can often make suggestions you wouldn't even have thought of yourself. Which, in turn, can give you the push you need to finish the song.

Set a goal before you start producing the song.

If you are new to the music industry, you may not have a project to write towards when you make your song. This makes it even more important for you to have clear goals with your producing and writing. Just to keep the spark alive that is needed to be creative. One goal might be that you need to complete five songs in 2 months. Another might be to build a portfolio in 1 year that you will then submit to the industry. Clear goals will give you the motivation to get your projects done.

Give the song a break

Often you work on a song for a long time, and the risk of doing so is that you easily lose the spark of what you liked about the song. Then it can be smart to take a break from the song. Start on another one to think in new directions. Come back to it later, then you can listen with fresh ears. This will make it easier for you to finish it.

Understand when it is time to release the song

Sitting on songs for a long time can be very beneficial for some, just as it can kill creativity and the desire to work for others. We all want to optimize our songs as much as possible before they are released, but there is a clear line where your creativity turns into pure perfectionism that will often ruin your song more than improve it. In some cases, the best thing to do is to be happy with how the song turned out and move on and start a new one. Writing is how you get better, the more songs you make the easier it will be to finish them. Like any thing, you pick up little tricks along the way that make it easier the longer you keep going.
