Five must-haves in the studio!

1. a good chair

When you're sitting down to produce music, it can take hours until it's time to go home. That's why it's important to have a good chair when you work. The consequences of not having a good chair can mean back problems for the rest of your life, so investing in a good chair is something you won't regret. Equally important is to move around when you've been sitting still for so long, the occasional leg stretcher can be good from time to time.

2. Food and Water

In order to stay focused in front of the computer, it is important to stay hydrated. Water is critical to prevent headaches and dehydration. Equally, it's good to have some snacks with you. If you eat a lot of carbohydrates before work, you'll usually feel tired and sluggish. However, having a piece of fruit with you can be a good way to satisfy your hunger for a while so that you can get on with your work without getting sleepy.

3. notepad and pen

After a few hours in the studio, you can easily lose your focus and forget what you were supposed to do. This is something that happens to everyone from time to time, make sure you have a notebook and pen with you so you can jot down ideas or thoughts quickly. If you prefer to write it digitally, download an app so you have all your notes in one place. It's easier to structure it that way, instead of writing it in a word document or notes on the computer where you have a bunch of other things that aren't relevant to music.

4. air freshener

Let's all agree that a studio will start to smell, especially if it's small and the ventilation isn't the best. With the doors closed maybe one or two more people in the studio doesn't make things better, make sure you can always freshen up your studio once that happens. A scented candle or some kind of air-freshener that you can easily spray is great if it's on hand.

5. disconnect

If you get tired or lose inspiration, it's good to have some kind of toy in your studio. It can be nice to drop everything for a while and play with something else like a rubix cube or a deck of cards. Whatever it is, it's not important as long as you enjoy it and use your brain in a different way for a little while. Especially if there are several of you in the studio and doing something together can be fun, but don't waste all the time and remember why you are actually there.
