This course covers all the knowledge you need to start working in the games industry. Sound and music is an important subject and a fundamental part of video & video games, and also in media in general. In this course, we work on a project basis with the aim that you will be able to get a job or create your own job opportunities right after graduation, and by putting you directly in the center of the creative industries, we give you an opportunity to become part of the future.
About the program
Game Audio Producer & Sound Designer is a two-year full-time program that gives you the knowledge and experience needed to create, edit and implement sound in games, as well as the skills to compose music that fits game themes and all the variations that exist in games. In addition to this, the training also covers how to use specific and modern game sound software, how to optimize your machine, how to organize your workflow, how to work skillfully with producers and developers, how to market yourself and be seen in the industry, what to do to be considered by companies both as a freelancer and intern, how the structure of the game market is organized and much more.

As the program is closely linked to your future professional life, you will have direct access to valuable contacts and will be able to build your career as a sound designer, composer, sound engineer or much more right after graduation. The program will give you a broad practical experience of working on many different types of projects, which will give you the skills needed to work in the games industry and also the film industry.

Training content and curriculum
The entire program is a total of 400 YH credits, spread over two years of full-time study. These 400 credits include the courses you can read more about below:

This course gives you a general and broad overview of the gaming industry and how gaming companies are organized. You will gain insight into the different job roles that exist in audio both within companies and as freelancers, such as composer, sound designer or sound engineer.

In this course, you will learn about digital audio and optimizing your Windows/MacOS computer for software and hardware optimization and audio management. You will learn how to use all available computing power to produce and edit audio, and how to keep the communication in your Daws-Os hardware flawless.

This course starts with the basic knowledge and practice of sound design needed to produce professional quality audio. The course includes information on how to create layers, ambiences, audio editing and merging, mixing, field recording, sampling, synthesis, sound design templates, how to export and manage sound design loops, ducking, basic VO recording/editing/mixing and analysis.

During this course you will learn how to organize libraries and recordings efficiently, advanced sidechain, creative EQ, and filtered EQ in layered modulations, aux-returned tracks in ambiences, timestretching, layered textures, advanced synth programming, the importance of noise and background sounds, FX channel chains and how to use the most common plugins, merging different sound sources, sound design for trailers and for music, finalizing sounds before implementation, client references, and analysis.

During this course you will learn how to create music for games, loops vs. "normal" soundtracks, the major styles of game music, creating your own templates, orchestral sessions and how to compose within this specific genre. You'll learn about gameplay vs. trailer vs. video sound design, merging sound design and music, the building blocks of mixing & mastering, and how to prepare and export tracks for implementation.

During this course you will learn what software you need to master the implementation of audio in games, Wwise and FMOD, basic knowledge of Unity, integration of Unity, asset management, mixing in middleware, event triggers, merging audio triggered by events, basic scripting, macros, source control systems, testing, VOs/Dialogs, containers and how to manage a third party integration.

During this course, you will learn what your portfolio and CV should look like and how to make them effective, how to connect with communities and clients, how to market yourself, how to approach companies and contact them appropriately, how to keep your online and offline resources up to date, and how to navigate the gaming industry as a freelancer.

The exam consists of two different projects + an oral test. One work includes creating music and sound for a game and a trailer for the game itself. The other work is a game (gameplay) focused on sound design with special focus on creative ambiences, mix of original recordings and libraries etc. The oral exam consists of questions on knowledge from the whole program with focus on certain courses, as well as a short "job interview" within which you will present your own work experience/portfolio to HR.

Learning in work is your internship period, and during this course you will have an internship at a self-selected workplace in the relevant industry. Through your LIA, you will gain direct experience in a game or production company as a sound designer, sound engineer or composer. You will be involved in the production of an ongoing project and have the opportunity to use your knowledge and experience from the training in a live situation.

To be able to apply for this program, you need basic eligibility (which means a high school diploma or equivalent). We have the possibility to give you an assessment based on your conditions, so contact us if you want to apply without basic eligibility.
The program accepts a total of 24 students. If the number of eligible applications exceeds the number of places available, a selection is made. The selection criteria are grades and a special test. These give different scores and it is the total score that determines the place. The higher the total score, the higher the place in the selection.
If two or more results are exactly the same, the places will be drawn and registered in descending order in the yh-antagning.se admission system.

If the number of eligible applications exceeds the number of places available, a selection procedure will be carried out, including an admission test. You can find the instructions for this year's admission test above. You upload your admission test together with your grades and other documents in your application at yh-antgning.se. The entrance exam is in three parts and consists of the submission of work samples, written questions and projects that you have created yourself and that represent you. The admission test is the basis for the selection process, so be creative!

We have fully equipped studios at the school with all the equipment needed for you to record, write and produce music. As a student of Game Audio Producer & Sound Designer, you have access to our studios 24/7 during the program, and in addition to this we also have loan computers with Logic Pro available. Many students choose to invest in a good computer with Logic Pro or other DAW installed, but otherwise nothing more than a good setup is needed!

Game Audio Producer & Sound Designer is a full-time higher vocational education program that is completely free and qualifies for student aid through CSN. Your possibilities for support through CSN are affected by your study history, among other things. Therefore, contact CSN directly if you want to know what applies to you.
